Oscar and skirt

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Boyfriend and I met up with somebody today to talk about some serious matters. T'was a little gloomy outside so I decided to wear a jacket and a very comfy skirt. I bought this skirt for only 25 php (less than a dollar), but without a garter. Since the pattern and style is so cute, without hesitations, I grabbed it right away. I attached the garter by myself (a big thanks to my Sewing lesson from high school) And there you have it! A skirt that perfectly fits a chubby me.haha

On the other note, I'm happy that some of the movies I watched last year were nominated for Oscars this year. Click here for the final list of nominees. I am rooting for "The King's Speech" for best picture. Firth has a stunning performance, along with Rush. Among the films nominated, only "Winter's Bone" I didn't enjoy watching. Such a boring one.And I think Natalie Portman will bag another award for her film, "Black Swan". I watched it twice already. A must-see movie too.

one book at a time

Photobucket Photobucket
I was surprised this Mang Inasal's 3 scoop of ice cream only costs 12 php. cool!

I can't believe I finished reading the book (South of the Border:West of the sun) in just one week. This may sound weird for readers out there, but hey I don’t read books and when I read one it takes a year or so to finish it.So a week is an achievement for me already. The book is actually an easy read. Anyone can easily comprehend the words chosen by Murakami. I'm not good in giving book reviews but I recommend this book. Among the characters, I love Yukiko the most.

So that's it for my January read. Now I'm searching a book for February. Suggestions, anyone?

Have a happy weekend!

The Rock

My previous post shows some breathtaking views of Corregidor. Now I'll show you the people I was with when I conquered the island.
This is the mode of transportation in the island,we call it TRAM or TRANVIA.

My boyfriend could be a tour guide. He knows Philippine History well than I do.
our friends from Japan (Takao-san,Yaichi-san and Makoto-san)

That was an insightful tour. Corregidor is a must-see island in Philippines. "Huwag maging dayuhan sa sariling bayan" sabi ni Kuya Tour Guide.

The Island of Corregidor

 Barracks Ruins
view from the hotel
Japanese Garden of Peace Park

Had buffet lunch at Corregidor Inn
The Battery Way
Pacific War Memorial
I never thought Corregidor was this beautiful. I remember in college, there was a field trip for our History class and I didn't go because I was not interested. Two weeks ago, after browsing some photos online, I got curious in this historical island. I then recommended this place to my Japanese friends who happened to tour Manila. Finally, I witnessed the beauty of Corregidor. According to the tour guide, this was once a paradise, but after the World War II  it turned into ruins. This is actually the second most bombed island in the world. I can imagine how beautiful it was before the war. It is indeed one of the most scenic destinations in the Philippines.I can't help but be proud of our ancestors.

walk the talk

I have started doing few of my new year's resolution. See, now I'm reading "Haruki Murakami's South of the Border:West of the sun". So far I enjoy reading the story and I'll try to finish this before January ends.haha.
I also promised to take photos of every beautiful place I visit. The photo below was taken last week in Cavite. It's a golf course. There's no doubt of how beautiful a golf course is and I'm always fascinated by its peaceful ambiance. Someday I'll own a mini garden that somehow looks like this.
I vowed to lose weight this year. God it's so hard but I gradually lessen the amount of rice in my meals these past days.Vegetables and fruits help a lot too.
This one's one of my favorite shots. For me, it symbolizes assertiveness or positivism. One should be confident to face challenges. To stand out even if the world around him is falling.(arte.haha)

The Oceanarium and The Loafers Flats

This is our first time to visit the Philippine's world class marine park. I was overwhelmed by the beauty of these aquariums. There are different species in each tank. Each has information about the a certain species. I'm glad to see some of  sea creatures without getting wet. But it would be more fun to be interacting with the ocean.haha. The oceanarium is so big that it is divided into six sections. Each section represents the different depths of the sea where you can find  marine animals living in that specific section. We have Agos (flow), Bahura (The Reef), Laot (Fishing Ground), Kalaliman (The Deep), Buhay na Karagatan (Deep Ocean), Pagi (Sting Ray) and the Pating (Sharks). Too bad we have only visited the Oceanarium part since we lack time to visit other attractions in Manila Ocean Park. But it is worth visiting. I promise.
Here are a few of my favorite shots

And for my outfit, I wore this thrifted floral dress (also worn here), thrifted cropped blazer and featuring my newest shoe find. I grabbed this immediately because I've been looking for a loafer flats for comfortable reasons. I love everything about it.
